Title: can't  set up connection
Post by luke on Nov 11th, 2008, 11:49pm
Hello!
I have tried to test NSPK trial version in 2 situations but I coldn't make it work.

Situation 1
I installed NSPK on 2 computers from my local network.
On computer #1 (IP 192.168.123.3) :
I shared COM1 and I added an exception for TCP 33600 port in the windows firewall. Computer #1 has no third parties firewalls installed.
On computer #2 (with windows Vista IP 192.168.123.6):
I disabled windows firewall and I added an exception in the bitdefender firewall for the "nspk.exe".
I added a connection with computer #1. I set up the virtual serial port as COM10.
I restarted computer #2. I checked in the Device Manager and I found Fabula Tech Network Serial Port (COM10). In the proprieties section at the "General" it said that  "The device is working properly" but in the "Resource" tab it sais "The device isn't using any resources because it has a problem". In the NSPK in the "Connection" section I have an icon with a red bullet followed by the next text: "VirtualPort(COM10)->192.168.123.3:33600(COM1)"
To test the new virtual COM10 I tried to use Bray terminal (which I normally use to test other things on COM ports), but COM10 is not available.

Situation 2
The same as situation 1 but I used computer#2 to share the COM1 and also to connect to it (Local Computer). The behavior was the same both in the Device Manager and in the Bray terminal.

Hope to receive a solution very soon.

Dear Luke!

Could you please try the same scenario and add
system32/ftnspksrv.exe file to exception list of bitdefender firewall?

I found the problem!

Yesterday I also installed Serial Port Redirector on Computer#1 and I redirected the COM1 to a TCP port. That is why the COM wasn't available for the application on the remote PC.

Oh, it is clear now.

We are glad to know that everything is fine now.
